Facelift

A facelift is a surgical procedure that comprehensively addresses the signs of ageing in the face and neck — restoring the face's original contours and a younger look while preserving its natural expression.

Original contours restored — natural expression preserved

With age, the face slowly loses its firm contours — the skin loosens and sags, wrinkles form, and so-called jowls begin to show along the lower face. These are exactly the changes a facelift addresses: the loosening and descent of the skin and the fine facial muscles. It is a popular procedure for women and men alike.

It's right for you if…

  • the skin of your face and neck is losing firmness and beginning to sag,
  • jowls are forming along the lower face and your jawline is losing definition,
  • you want a more pronounced, longer-lasting effect than aesthetic medicine can offer,
  • you are looking for a natural result — a younger look without a change of expression.
  • A facelift does not change the quality of the skin itself — fine expression lines around the eyes, on the forehead, or around the mouth, or pigmentation. These are better addressed by aesthetic medicine, such as botulinum toxin.
Tailored to you

Classic facelift or mini facelift

Depending on the extent of visible ageing in the face and neck, the standard option is a classic facelift, which rejuvenates the midface, the jawline, and the neck. The incision is placed discreetly, running from the hair-bearing temple area down just in front of the ear, under the earlobe, and continuing behind the ear — so the healed scar is barely visible.

If there is not much excess skin and only the midface needs tightening, a mini facelift with smaller incisions — and therefore smaller scars — is an option. It also comes with a lower price, a shorter operating time, and a shorter recovery.

It all starts with a consultation

A consultation with a plastic surgeon is essential before the procedure. The surgeon assesses the condition and elasticity of your skin and the extent of the visible signs of ageing — and advises whether now is the right time for surgery or whether it is better to wait. They discuss your expectations and, in front of a mirror, gently draw your skin towards your ears with their fingers to show you how you will look after the procedure.

Five steps to your original contours

The procedure is performed in an operating theatre under sterile conditions, in most cases under local anaesthesia, and is very well tolerated. It can also be performed under general anaesthesia — in that case, expect an overnight stay at the clinic and a greater strain on the body.

  1. 01

    Marking and local anaesthesia

The surgeon marks the area to be operated on and uses a fine needle to inject a sufficient amount of local anaesthetic.

This is usually the most uncomfortable part of the whole procedure.
  2. 02

    Releasing and tightening the tissues

The surgeon frees and lifts the skin of the face and neck, tightens the loosened muscles, draws the skin towards the ears, and removes the excess.

  3. 03

    Sutures and drains

The incisions are closed with fine sutures. Small drains are placed under the skin to prevent haematomas and fluid build-up in the wound, helping to avoid healing complications.

  4. 04

    Sterile dressing and bandage

Sterile gauze is applied to the sutured incisions and the head is wrapped in an elastic bandage.

A classic facelift takes roughly 2.5–3 hours, a mini facelift about 2 hours.
  5. 05

    Going home

You can leave right after the procedure. Because your head is bandaged, please arrange a lift home in advance — we advise against driving.

What to expect after the procedure

Day 0

You go home; we provide antibiotics as a precaution against infection. At home, rest with your head elevated; for the first 3–5 days avoid exertion — no heavy lifting and no bending forward.

Days 2–3

The surgeon removes the elastic bandage and the drains — after that, you can wash your hair. You start wearing an elastic compression chin strap for about 14 days.

Days 7–9

You come in for a check-up and to have your stitches removed. From then on, apply a rich cream to the scars and protect them from the sun for 6 months.

Day 14

You begin gentle pressure massages of the scars — we explain and demonstrate them when your stitches are removed. From this point you can also start wearing make-up.

Weeks 2–3

Returning to work: office work is possible after a week, but because of the swelling, bruising, and the chin strap, most people should allow 14 days to 3 weeks.

Month 1

You can return to sports roughly one month after the procedure.

Facial swelling tends to peak around the third day and then gradually subsides; mild swelling and bruising can persist for 14 days to 3 weeks. It is entirely individual.

A facelift can restore your face's original contours while preserving your natural expression. It will help you feel great again.

Facelift pricing

The extent of the procedure — and therefore the price — depends on the degree of visible ageing. Whether a classic facelift or a mini facelift is right for you is assessed by the surgeon at a free consultation.

Under local anaesthesia

  • Facelift 2,420 €
  • Mini Facelift 1,770 €

Under general anaesthesia

  • Facelift 3,280 €
  • Mini Facelift 2,370 €
  • Brow & Forehead Lift 1,650 €

The price includes anaesthesia, the procedure itself, and post-operative check-ups and dressings. A facelift under general anaesthesia includes an overnight stay at the clinic.

These prices apply to procedures from 1 January 2027. If your procedure is booked for 2026, the price quoted when you booked still applies.

We speak openly with you

The most common complication is infection of the surgical wound — that is, impaired healing — and increased bleeding. Impairment of the facial nerves or muscles is very rare.

Complications can be prevented by following the aftercare regimen and caring for the scars properly. You will also support smooth healing by not smoking for several weeks before and after the procedure, and by making sure you have not had any acute illness in the two weeks before surgery.

Three weeks before the procedure

To avoid unnecessary bleeding and bruising after the procedure, do not take any preparations that affect blood clotting for about 3 weeks beforehand — medicines containing salicylic acid, Paralen (paracetamol), or enzyme preparations such as Wobenzym.

If you take warfarin or a similar medication, please discuss its use with your prescribing doctor.

In our patients' words

A selection of reviews from Google and Firmy.cz.

A truly professional and kind approach, the gentle and patient manner of Dr. Chaloupková and the nurse, and of course an absolutely SUPERB facelift result! Regular check-ups and consultations, whenever anything is unclear to you, are a matter of course. I can only recommend her — golden hands! The result is so lovely that the doctor is going to have a great deal of work; judging by the reactions, there will be plenty of people interested.

Frequently asked questions — facelift

If you can see the skin of your face and neck loosening, jowls forming along the lower face, and you are unhappy with your appearance, book a free, no-obligation consultation. Our experienced plastic surgeon will assess whether now is the right time for the procedure or whether it is better to wait a while longer. They will talk you through the options and help you choose the best solution.
It is possible, but because a facelift is a more extensive procedure, we do not recommend combining several operations at once. A facelift is followed by a fairly long recovery, which additional surgery would only prolong. It is better to have the facelift on its own and eyelid surgery some time later.
Being worried is completely natural. You can share your concerns with our experienced surgeon at a free, entirely no-obligation consultation. They will explain the whole procedure and, in front of a mirror, gently draw your skin towards your ears with their fingers to show you how you will look afterwards. The aim of a facelift is to restore the face's original contours and a younger look — while preserving your natural expression.
We strongly advise against driving after a facelift. Because your head is bandaged, it is essential to arrange a lift home.
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia — the surgeon uses a fine needle to inject a sufficient amount of local anaesthetic into the marked area, numbing it completely. Throughout the procedure you feel no pain, only touch. The numbing itself is usually the most uncomfortable part of the whole procedure.
You may feel mild pain in the first days after the operation; an ordinary painkiller is usually enough.
Yes, expect noticeable swelling and bruising after the procedure. Facial swelling tends to be at its worst around the third day, after which it gradually improves. Mild swelling and bruising can, however, persist for 14 days to 3 weeks — it is entirely individual.
After a classic facelift, expect a longer recovery because of the post-operative swelling and bruising. For the first few days (about 3–5) we recommend resting — this significantly helps healing. After a week you can manage ordinary office work; one week off is the minimum, but because of the persisting swelling, bruising, and the compression chin strap, most people need 14 days to 3 weeks. It depends on the kind of work you do and is entirely individual.
We recommend applying make-up no sooner than 14 days after the procedure.
You can return to sports roughly one month after the procedure.
Incisions are always placed so the scars show as little as possible. In a facelift, the incision runs from the hair-bearing temple area down just in front of the ear, under the earlobe, continues behind the ear, and ends in the lower hair-bearing part of the head. In a mini facelift, the incisions — and therefore the scars — are much smaller. The scars heal within a week; they are red at first, and their appearance improves over time.
Not permanent as such — rather long-lasting. Keep in mind that the skin keeps changing, and no surgical procedure can stop that. To maintain the result for as long as possible, we recommend a healthy lifestyle and limiting excessive sun exposure.
What matters is not your calendar age but the biological condition of your skin — its elasticity, quality, and the extent of visible ageing. Most facelift patients are between 45 and 65, but after careful assessment the procedure can be performed earlier or later. Whether now is the right time for you is assessed by a plastic surgeon at a free consultation.
Obstacles include serious general health conditions, blood-clotting disorders, and skin diseases or inflammation in the treated area. We also do not operate during an acute illness. Suitability is always assessed by the surgeon at your consultation, taking your overall health into account.
