Breast reduction that benefits your figure and your back

Large breasts are often a genuine burden — on the back, neck, and shoulders, during sport, and when choosing clothes. Breast reduction removes excess fat, skin, and part of the mammary gland; the aim is breast proportions balanced with a woman's figure. The procedure also has a marked positive effect on psychological wellbeing.

It's right for you if…

  • the weight of your breasts is a long-term strain — causing back, neck, or shoulder pain,
  • large breasts limit you during sport, everyday movement, or when choosing clothes,
  • you feel your breast size as both a physical and a psychological burden,
  • you are at least 18 and no longer planning to breastfeed.
  • We do not recommend the procedure for women who are still planning to breastfeed — part of the mammary gland is removed during the operation.
Our approach

A technique tailored to size and desired result

The surgeon chooses the technique and course of the operation individually — according to the original breast size and the desired final result. The incision most often runs around the areola and then down to the fold beneath the breast; excess fat, skin, and part of the mammary gland are removed, and the areola is usually made smaller and placed in a new position.

The benefits are expected in overall physical and psychological wellbeing — and they also show in improved sporting performance and a freer choice of clothing sizes.

It all starts with a consultation

A thorough consultation with the plastic surgeon comes first: they examine the breasts, discuss the size and shape you are aiming for, and explain the placement of the incisions, the course of the operation, the aftercare regimen, and the possible risks. The consultation is free and carries no obligation.

Five steps to lighter breasts

The procedure is performed in an operating theatre under sterile conditions, under general anaesthesia. The operation takes 2–3 hours and involves an overnight stay at the clinic.

  1. 01

    General anaesthesia

You sleep through the entire operation under general anaesthesia, in the care of an anaesthetist — you feel no pain during the procedure.

  2. 02

    Placing the incisions

The incision most often runs around the areola and from there down to the fold beneath the breast. The exact placement is chosen individually — according to the original breast size and the desired result.

  3. 03

    Removing the tissue

The surgeon removes excess fat, skin, and part of the mammary gland. The areola is usually made smaller as well and placed in a new position to match the shape and size of the breast.

  4. 04

    Stitches and sterile dressing

At the end of the operation, the wounds are closed with fine stitches and covered with a sterile dressing.

  5. 05

    A night at the clinic

After the operation you stay at the clinic in post-operative care for 1 day (overnight). The next day the surgeon changes the dressings and discharges you into home care.

What to expect after the procedure

Day 0–1

You spend the night after the operation at the clinic in post-operative care. The next day the surgeon changes the dressings and discharges you into home care.

Week 2

Swelling, bruising, and breast tenderness usually subside — you can return to work and to everyday activities.

Week 4

For the first 4 weeks, avoid sport, heavier physical exertion, and lifting heavy objects. Do not sleep on your stomach for at least 6 weeks.

Weeks 6–8

You keep wearing the elastic (sports) bra — it helps the breasts settle into their new shape and position.

Month 6

The final result may only show after 6 months, once the breasts have settled into their new position.

Follow-up check-ups are arranged individually with your surgeon. Healing varies from person to person — always pace your return to everyday activities according to your surgeon's advice.

Large breasts are not just an aesthetic matter — the back, neck, and shoulders carry them. Reduction brings them relief.

We speak openly with you

After the operation, expect swelling, bruising, and breast tenderness. These effects usually disappear within 2 weeks.

As with any operation, complications may rarely occur — a haematoma (a collection of blood), a seroma (a build-up of tissue fluid), infection, or impaired wound healing, most often where the scars beneath the breast meet. A small firm area of fatty tissue (fat necrosis) can rarely develop as well. The risk is reduced by a gentle surgical technique, the elastic bra, and following the aftercare regimen.

Two weeks before the operation

Breast reduction is performed under general anaesthesia, so the related pre-operative examinations are required. We will explain everything you need at your consultation.

To reduce excessive bleeding, do not take medicines containing acetylsalicylic acid — such as Acylpyrin, Aspirin, or Anopyrin — for approximately 2 weeks before the operation.

In our patients' words

A selection of reviews from Google and Firmy.cz.

A week ago I had a breast lift and reduction and liposuction of my abdomen and hips. Dr. Novák operated on me. I am completely satisfied, the operation went perfectly and the doctor is incredibly kind, human, funny .. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Frequently asked questions — breast reduction

The incision most often runs around the areola and from there vertically down to the fold beneath the breast. For larger reductions, the surgeon may add a third, horizontal incision along the inframammary fold — the exact placement is always chosen individually. The scars are more visible at first, but they fade over time and remain hidden in the natural lines of the breast, under both underwear and swimwear.
Breast reduction removes part of the mammary gland, so the ability to breastfeed may be reduced or lost entirely. For this reason, we do not recommend the procedure for women who are still planning to breastfeed. Your surgeon will discuss everything openly with you at the consultation.
This is always individual — it depends on the original breast size, the quality of your skin, and your wishes. The aim is not a specific number but breast proportions balanced with your figure. Your surgeon will discuss the realistically achievable result with you at the consultation.
The sensitivity of the nipples and areolas may be temporarily reduced or altered after the operation. In most women it gradually recovers, but in rare cases the change can be permanent — your surgeon will discuss this openly with you before the operation.
Not at our clinic — Estela is a private clinic, and procedures are not covered by public health insurance. This means you know the price in advance and there is no waiting list. In the Czech Republic, insurance coverage is possible only exceptionally — in contracted, usually hospital, facilities and subject to strict medical criteria.
You wear the elastic (sports) bra for 6–8 weeks after the operation. It helps the breasts settle into their new shape and position.
For the first 4 weeks after the procedure, avoid sport, heavier physical exertion, and lifting heavy objects. You can resume everyday activities 2 weeks after the procedure — and do not sleep on your stomach for at least 6 weeks.
Swelling, bruising, and tenderness usually disappear within 2 weeks, but the breasts settle gradually. The final result may only show after 6 months, once the breasts have settled into their new position.
That is one of its main benefits — reducing the breasts relieves neck, back, and shoulder pain. The operation also has a positive effect on psychological wellbeing, sporting performance, and a freer choice of clothing sizes.
In some cases, yes — the reduction can be complemented, for example, by liposuction of the surrounding areas. Whether and how to combine procedures is assessed by the surgeon at the consultation, with regard to safety, extent, and the overall length of the operation.
